This Everday Love

To help you all understand what is happening here in Panajachel, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek into an average day for my team.

In the morning, one of our four cooking teams prepare breakfast for us all.  After eating and spending some quiet time with Christ, we head out to our work projects.  We’ve been working on a few different projects which include evangelizing to a drug dealer, building a retaining wall for a family that is in danger of losing their home in the event of a mudslide, finishing a clean-water well, and digging a septic system for the mission site that we are staying at.  All of these projects allow us to evangelize to the people we are working for and show them God’s love through our actions.

We finish up working around 2pm, and then head back to our home for lunch.  The rest of the afternoon is open for us to sleep, shower (in super cold water, though we’re incredibly blessed to have showers), visit an internet café, and spend time in the Word.  In the evening, one of the cooking teams will prepare dinner; I was quite concerned about what kind of food we would be eating, but I can gladly say that my tummy is always content!  We’ve had some great meals, and are blessed with some wonderful chefs on our team.

Each evening looks a little bit different.  Some nights, we have free time to play cards, relax, and bond with our teammates; while other nights we spend time with Pastor Ben and his wife Lily (our hosts) and their church community.  The church body at Mi Reto is absolutely fantastic.  They are all incredibly kind and truly love the Lord.

Well, that’s a sneak peek into this missionary’s life.  My prayer requests today would be that Christ would continually soften the hearts of our team to be open to His plan for us, that we would remain healthy, and that the Lord would put people in our path to minister to.

With love from Panajachel, Mariah
