We have gotten a number of concerned people wondering how safe it is to send teams to Mexico on a mission trip as a result of the ongoing violence.
Your safety is of utmost importance to our organization, so we have continued to assess the situation and should any danger arise, we will evacuate any groups on the ground and notify upcoming trips.
As it stands now, where AIM sends mission trips to Mexico, it is a safe and secure situation. Jeff Steffen was on a team that recently returned, and he shared the following report about their safety:
At no time and in no way were we
ever in any danger. We never even had a perception of danger or saw any
violence. The Gateway is in such a secluded and safe area we always felt
safe. Richard (the field director) always made sure we traveled where and when we should and
we were always home before dark. This group really
struggled on whether we should go to Matamoros – we are SO glad we did. The media coverage did not portray what we saw.
