One Year Later: Haiti, We Still Remember You

A lot can happen in a year. A massive earthquake hits; aftershocks follow. Buildings crumble. A cholera epidemic ensues. A nation votes. Spiritual revival sweeps through the Haitian church. A lot more needs to happen this year: You and your church can partner with a church in Haiti. You can spend a week (or more or less) with us in Haiti. You can pray. You can give. Mission Trips to Swaziland: A Place of Transformation

Africa has without a doubt become a place of transformation for our mission trip participants. Mission trips to Swaziland are no different. Last spring, college age participant Katherine Tupper experienced her own transformation firsthand through the Real Life program.   After witnessing the heartbreak and struggles that come when three children are left in the care of a neighbor after their mother’s death and father’s abandonment, she realized what great faith looks like.   “On March 28th, Mhale Bwendwa asked her pastor to come to her home to be with her as...

High School Mission Trip: Lives Changed by Listening to God

How Lives Were Changed on a High School Mission Trip by Listening to God During a high school mission trip last summer, a team in Guatemala spent an entire day listening to God in prayer.   Since listening prayer is a core value of our ministry, we place a strong emphasis on discerning what God is saying  before we attempt to meet a need. Because this group of students took time to do just that, lives were changed.   The group discussed ways to know that you’re hearing from the Lord and how to test it. Then, they spent the rest of the day going out into the community...

Mission Trips to Uganda: The Stories

We recently started sending teams on mission trips to the African country of Uganda. It has become a well-loved place for World Racers, Real Life participants, and others who have visited this country that is rich in love and generosity, despite some of the horrors she has endured.   Last year, we launched a blog to catalog the experiences of our college-age participants who were serving in Uganda. Here are some of the highlights (click the titles to read the whole blog post) from the summer:   To the numerous Ugandans we nearly hit we were little more than a big blue blur...

Shining God’s Light on the Darkness of Human Trafficking

Ever since she first learned about human trafficking at a Sara Groves concert, Tamara Powers had studied and researched the issue. Then on the World Race, last month, she got to encounter it first hand in Cambodia: A single day of my little life. Such drastic things. Words really don’t flow well over this event.   Holding hands with a young girl, HIV positive, tuberculosis, and pregnant. Only knowing how to sell her body. watching a man enter a tiny building and forcing my brain to not picture what will happen. Looking into the eyes of teenagers knowing what all the research...

Youth Groups Need to Go on Mission Trips

More youth groups need to go on mission trips. I’m convinced of it. It’s not always easy or convenient, but no other experience can grow a young person in his or her faith as much as a short-term mission trip can. (I know that’s a bold statement, but I truly believe that.)   Of course, there are downsides to the “short-term” aspect of short-term missions.   If you’re able to take your youth group on a month- or summer-long missions experience in which your students are immersed into the elements of a foreign culture, great. However, most youth...

Spending Christmas in the Mission Field

What if you spent next Christmas overseas… in the mission field?   What if, instead of exchanging gifts with family and friends, you shared the hope of Christ with those who have never heard the gospel?   What if?   Have you ever thought of spending Christmas in the mission field?   Watch the following video and consider how next Christmas could be different — whether you’re in Haiti, Kenya, or Cambodia.   If you’re thinking about spending next Christmas in the mission field and you’re 21-35 years old, consider going on the World...

AIM Newsletter | Immanuel on the Mission Field From Our Director Upcoming Trips Featured Story Stories from the Field Video   From Our Director   Confronting a Warlock in Caracas | Seth Barnes Lately, South America has become a riskier place to do missions primarily due to violence related to drug-trafficking. Seth, however, recently shared a story from a short-term trip to Venezuela he went on 17 years ago: Arriving in Caracas…our team immediately saw its cauldron of contradictions. Skyscrapers and slums coexist uneasily. Its six million...

AIM and Awana: Same Direction, Different Paths

In October, 22 year old Emily Tuttle of Duluth, Ga. was in training in the rural northern part of her home state for the World Race.  She, along with over a hundred other young-adults, begins her trip in January in Haiti, then will minister in South America, Southeast Asia and conclude in East Africa. But Tuttle already grew up with the world at her doorstep; her family lived in a neighborhood populated primarily by recent immigrants.  Whereas her classmates from her Christian school were mostly white, her friends and neighbors were diverse not only in culture and...

From Awareness to Action

Kelly Chadwick has been serving as the program coordinator for our Real Life program for over a year now; previously, she went on the World Race in October 2008, during which she rose up as squad leader in January 2009.  Prior to participating on the World Race, Kelly served as a youth director at a church in Colorado.  She wrote the following post about moving the collegiate generation of believers into followers of Christ.
