Faith or Falling on my Face

Guatemala is unexplainable. God is moving. People are growing. Lives are being changed. Eyes are being opened. God is showing me that there is no stopping point in my growth. There is always something new to be discovered, and I have to keep seeking. Seeking with my WHOLE heart.    With that being said… God put a trip on my heart. A long, expensive, and last minute trip. It's called the Immersion trip with Adventures in Missions, the organization I am leading a trip in Guatemala with right now. This trip consists of 3 months in 3 different countries. . A total of...

The House of God Forever (Psalm 23)

There have been many low key mornings here in Guatemala before we go out and do afternoon ministry.  There was one morning our leaders asked us to spend 3 hours with the Lord before lunch.  I spent my time, praying over the different ministries my team is involved in.  I busted out my ipod and put on some good ol' worship music to the one and only JC.  My prayers for the ministries were the song lyrics of different songs.   The song God of this City by Chris Tomlin was my prayer for the people of Puerto Barrios.  There were many other songs I came...

1st things 1st- Create the Relationship

Looking back at my journal from this week, I realized I did a lot of whining and griping. I wasn’t satisfied with the amount of ministry happening (or lack thereof). I was irritated with the same questions and same answers. And there are only so many times a person can play Bananagrams with a smile. Little did I know, God was giving us those days of down time to prepare us for the days to come. God’s timing is perfect. And I’m an impatient loser. The week started with sports ministry at the park. I can’t even put into words the joy I felt when I spotted “my...

nada es imposible

“Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 In these two weeks of being on the field so far, God is already doing some serious work in my heart. It’s amazing what happens when you take 20 people with different stories, different hearts, desires, passions, scars, and victories. Every one of us has a lot to let go of, and a lot to learn. We all have so much to discover, and so much to step into. And the cool thing is, we will always have more to learn, and more to understand. Something I have been learning for a long time now is to let go of my desire to be in...

Hola a mis amigos en los Estados Unidos!!

Hola!! I have been in Guatemala for almost 2 weeks! Wow! Since I posted last week, a lot has happened as far as ministry goes. So much that I forget a lot of it! But this week we got to go to the garbage dump for the first time. Pastor Roni (who is the pastor we are working with) said around 75 families live and work there. They collect the recyclables and get paid for it. It is so sad. Lots of the children don't go to school because they have to work to earn money for their families. The first time we went there we just walked around and invited the kids to an event on Thursday that...

Que tienes en su mano? Un Gusanito!

Daniela y Yo This week was busier with ministry and it was so amazing to see God working through each activity.   Park Ministry: At the park we strengthened friendships we made last week with the people that were saved last week.   Dump Ministry:  This was our first visit to the dump and we were just simply going around telling them about an activity for children we were hosting on Thursday. Also, we would ask them for prayer requests and pray over them. There was one lady who was standing off to the side and she came right up next to me in the middle of the prayer...

I went bar hopping

We're almost two weeks into being on the field in Guatemala. Things started off pretty slow with ministry but have started to pick up. The past few days have been my favorite. We went to an orphanage on Thursday where we got to hold the cutest babies and learn more about the work we will get to be doing there in the weeks to come. Yesterday we went to the bars and witnessed to the prostitutes. For some reason I wasn't really affected by it, I thought I was going to be upset and angry, but it's only by the grace of God I walked out of the bars with a smile on my face. I just...

Behind Hardened Faces

As I looked out the window as we flew into the capital city of Phnom Penh, my first thought about Cambodia was: muddy water and colorful roofs.  An interesting contrast, but before I had much time to think about it, we were riding away from the airport in these things called “Tuk-Tuks.”  Cambodia’s version of a taxi, this is definitely my new favorite way of travel. Riding around in the Tuk-Tuk! As we were riding around in our Tuk-Tuks, it hit me that I was actually in the country I’ve been reading about for the past couple weeks.  Within the first...

Dancing In The Rain and Monster Spiders

Hello hello friends and family! We are now living in Kampong Chhnang and it has been anything but boring. The girls were so welcoming since the beginning and there are some orphans too that bring a lot of joy into this place. My ten favorite moments thus far: 1. My first time riding in a tuk tuk. Those things are so cool. It is a motorcycle pulling a carriage type thing that we sit in. It is quite the party. 2.Going to the Joy Daycare in Phnom Penh. TransformAsia picks up kids from the dump and they bring them to the centre. First, they sing songs such as: This Is The Day The Lord Has...

don ich mo’way?

"don ich mo'way?" that is the definite incorrect spelling of a phrase we have pronounced definitly incorrectly seemingly hundreds of times since landing in this beautiful and hot country. "what is your name?"  despite the hardships of a language barrier, that phrase has opened the door to many meaningful and impactful relationships we have been able to form in our first week here at the New Development Center.  The people here are so beautiful. Getting to share life with them is becoming one of my favorite parts.  Whether is is learning from an...

Learning to Love

I’m having a hard time choosing the words to use to describe my experience so far.  I will always believe that pictures can explain much better than my words, so I hope you can find the joy in these.  At this point, I can’t post any pictures of the women who I am working and living with day to day for safety purposes.   After long days of traveling, we arrived in the capital city Phnom Phen. We were instantly greeted by 4 tuk tuks, which we soon found out would be our transportation not only to the airport, but also for the next 2 months.  We drove through...

on teaching and being taught

Hello world!! Well, it's been a long week but such an amazing one! I think a few other team members are summarizing things we've done since arriving, so I'm going to skip those details. As a small summary, we arrived in Phnom Penh and spent two days there. The iced coffee was amazing (I really can't get over it). We visited the Killing Fields and a genocide museum. I do not have words I can express from those experiences, and so I'm not going to try. But I will say that it gives a great understanding for what the people here have gone through. I think for...
